Raised in Yorkshire and now based there, Anna Lilleengen is a fine art photographer specializing in vintage cameras and analogue processes. Every year, Anna returns to the wilderness areas in Scandinavia where her family roots are. Her focus is on subtle nuances and shifts in natural light, especially when reflected in water or caught in the humidity of dusk. Rather than simply highlighting specific landscape motifs, these elements become the subject of her artistic depictions. By exploring internal states that color our view of the landscape, Anna addresses the theme of change and transformation, which is visualized through layered and progressive images.
Anna's images operate on a level of impact, appealing to the viewer's emotions and intuitive abilities. By experiencing the images in a visceral way, the viewer is invited to connect with a less experienced part of themselves: the part that dreams, that creates hope and that can unite previously paradoxical perspectives into a new whole. It is a self for which time is not linear, and where it is easy to imagine resolutions and transformations that the rational mind alone cannot comprehend.
